Arts and Culture

Paramount
We’ve seen several great shows like Phillip Phillips, Sugar Ray, a David Bowie tribute and comedian Jo Koy at The Paramount in Huntington.

Long Island is home to many artsy and quirky people, and the locals proudly support their local farms, museums, indie movie and theatrical theaters and historical mansions. There are fun, interesting and lively yearly events like the Charles Dickens festival, Oyster Fest, the U.S. Navy Air Show with the Blue Angels, spirited St. Patrick’s Day parades, farm festivals, Native American Pow Wows and film expos. Locals sell their impressive handmade stuff at craft fairs, and if you’re into music, there’s plenty of it to see on Long Island.

There are yearly music festivals all over the island (we saw Third Eye Blind up close and personal at The Great South Bay Festival), talented musicians travel from the city to perform at park events (I love the Hecksher Park Summer concerts in Huntington, indie and retro artists at Coe Hall in Oyster Bay, boardwalk concerts in Long Beach) and restaurants like Grasso’s in Cold Spring Harbor. Small venues like The Paramount in Huntington feature well-known local and touring bands. My favorite music venue is the Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, an outdoor stadium on the Atlantic Ocean.

I created this category to share our discoveries of art, culture and history on Long Island.
